Job description: REGISTERED MANAGER
To manage the routine day to day tasks of the establishment. This will include full responsibility for the welfare of the children/young people, managing staff, the budget, the Admissions, the resources and the fabric of the building and the discharge of children/young people and in addition, all the external responsibilities of the management task including representation to Local Authorities and at panels, Conference meetings and Strategy Groups.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To ensure that staff work in accordance with the Statement of Purpose and Function of the home and in addition.
  • Understand and update relevant Channels and Choices policies and practice standards
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge and give guidance to other staff on: Children’s Homes Regulations 1991, The Children Act 1989, Care Standards Act 2000,Equal Opportunities Policies, Children Homes Regulations 2001.
  • Undertake recommendations of Ofsted Inspection Reports.
  • To be responsible for the implementation and adherence to the Local Authority Safeguarding Procedures.
  • To employ a range of Social Work skills for the benefit of the children/young people.
  • To demonstrate by example, good childcare practice and a professional social work approach to work with children or young people’s families through maintaining professional knowledge and skills.
  • To work alongside and in partnership with team members and other professionals (Social Workers, Police, Education, and Health) to help looked after children reach targets and expectations as outlined in their care plans and other plans for permanence.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that care Planning and Review of Children’s cases takes place in accordance with Channels and Choices policies and procedures, local authority instructions and relevant legislation.
  • To ensure that children and young people receive a sensitive residential service which best meets their social, racial, psychological, educational, cultural, physical identity and health care needs.
  • In liaison with other staff, enable and lead the participation of children/young people in various meetings and groups as part of the residential environment.
  • To ensure children and young people receive appropriate long or short term care, according to the Statement of Purpose and Function of the Home and Channels and Choices policies and procedures, and to ensure that children facing particular crisis and stresses are offered appropriate additional support.
  • To ensure that children and young people carry as much responsibility for their own lives as they can reasonably and demonstrably be expected to carry, keeping them informed of their circumstances and rights, involving them in planning their lives, and supporting them and helping them towards taking greater control and responsibility .
  • To ensure that children or young people, parents and other carers have the opportunity to participate in the care planning for children and young people as appropriate.
  • To contribute to the multidisciplinary assessment of children’s needs and to participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of children or young people’s care plans.
  • To lead a team effectively and be responsible for directing staff in regular individual programmes and direct work with children, and to ensure continuity of this activity.
  • To facilitate continued contact with family and friends for children where this is in their best interests.
  • Draw up placement (s) agreements and records with all those involved in the care of the child or young person and work along side social workers, parents, relatives, and any other agencies within the care plan programme.
  • Organising the availability and deployment of staff within the unit ensuring rota’s are covered.
  • To support staff in the role of key/co worker, in order to carryout the tasks identified in the young person’s care plan. To act as key/co worker if so required.
  • Maximise the use of the community facilities for the benefit of the children and young people, developing and maintaining relationships with the local community.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that Fire Regulations and Health and Safety Regulations are met, appropriate records are kept and that fire drill procedures are adhered to in accordance with Channels and Choices policies and procedures.
  • To undertake the management and delegation of all administrative tasks necessary for the effective running of the residential establishment within policy and procedures, including petty cash.
  • To participate in staff recruitment.
  • To be responsible for the induction programme and support newly appointed staff, and to provide supervision to staff as appropriate.
  • To promote a culture of self-awareness and understanding of others behaviours, and its effect on colleagues and young people, and to reinforce this through constructive feedback.
  • To manage and ensure the undertaking by all staff in such domestic, health, and hygiene duties as may be required on a daily basis cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.

Job description: QUALIFIED TEACHER
To teach national curriculum subjects to pupils aged 9-16.To plan lessons in line with national objectives to ensure that pupils learn and to encourage, monitor and record the progress of pupils.To support, observe and record the progress of their class as well as plan lessons in line with national objectives with the aim of ensuring a healthy culture of learning.To keep up to date with developments in subject areas, new resources, methods and national objectives. To liaise and network with other professionals, parents and carers both informally and formally.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes including putting up displays in the classroom;
  • marking work, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils' progress and development;
  • researching new topic areas, maintaining up-to-date subject knowledge and then devising and writing new curriculum materials;
  • selecting and using a range of different learning resources and equipment, including podcasts and interactive whiteboards;
  • undertaking pastoral duties, such as taking on the role of form tutor, and supporting pupils on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties;

Job description: RESIDENTIAL CARE WORKER
To support and work with Looked After Children (as defined by the Children Act 1989), encouraging them to value themselves, their education and achieve their full potential through access to a variety of activities, games, reading and key-working within a residential setting. To be an effective and efficient member of a dynamic team contributing to the running of the unit and to show a growing demonstration of excellence in child care.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work alongside and in partnership with team members and other professionals (Social Workers, Police, Education, and Health) to help looked after children reach targets and expectations as outlined in their care plans and other plans for permanence.
  • To promote the understanding and importance of key life skills, and appropriate behaviours to help looked after children reach their full potential by encouraging interests, activities, games and education. Encourage the development of practical management skills such as cooking and money and help prepare looked after children for their independence.
  • To liase with Professionals and demonstrate appropriate behaviour management strategies in line with Channels and Choices Policies on promoting positive behaviour in young people.
  • Keep up to date and accurate records of the children’s progress to help plan for their needs and enable other team members to fulfil their duties and responsibilities.
  • To attend regular supervision seminars and staff meetings, and undertake training as required developing the post holders own skills in helping looked after children.

Job description: SHIFT LEADER
Lead a shift and work as a member of a team providing a nurturing and safe environment which will promote the emotional physical well-being of all children/young people using a respite service.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead a shift of residential care workers in providing the day to day care and meeting the needs of children/ young people resident in the unit.
  • Contribute to the assessment of individual needs of residents and the development of constructive and detailed care plans and ensure these are carried out.
  • Promote equality for all individuals which recognises and encourages anti-discriminatory behaviour, client rights, choices, personal beliefs and identity. Behave in a professional manner at all times.
